Online Fraud Risks Increased with Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The risks of online fraud and scams have increased manifold by the advent of Artificial Intelligence, AI.

Experts warned that next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) has increased the risks of online fraud.  AI could be easily used to commit fraud through the imitation of voices belonging to people’s relatives or friends, or by obtaining other personal information.

Some of them are afraid that with the enhanced use of AI certain new forms of cybercrime would also become common.

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has recently claimed that OpenAI used her voice without permission.

Experts advise people to be highly wary of interacting with others online. They also suggest that if somebody you know, such as a friend or even a relative or some member of your household, calls and asks for personal information, be suspicious—it may well end up being a cybercriminal.

They also pointed out that AI might fuel a number of cybercrimes. With AI, fraudsters could create fake emails, messages, and websites that look so real—a way to dupe people more effectively.

Another worrying aspect is that AI can be used in creating fake videos and images, referred to as “deepfakes.” They can manipulate the appearance and voice of a person to spread disinformation and be used in blackmailing. This risks not just the privacy of ordinary people but of politicians, business leaders, and celebrities as well.

It is important to consider measures regarding online security, in addition to AI development, according to experts. They advise avoiding suspicious emails and messages and working on the privacy settings of social media accounts, being precautionary of any unexpected calls or messages.

Similarly, businesses can enhance their level of cybersecurity by installing the latest security systems, training their employees regarding cybersecurity, and getting security audits regularly. Government institutions, on the other hand, should make laws and policies to avoid AI misuse.
