KPK Government to Provide Free Meals to Schools Students

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has decided to provide free meals to students in government primary schools.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur, a meeting of the Education Department was held where it was decided to launch the “School Meals Program” for students in government primary schools. According to the announcement, under this program, students in government primary schools at all divisional headquarters of the KPK will be provided with free meals. Initially, Abbottabad and Swat will start as pilot projects.

It was stated that after the success of the program, it will be initiated in other divisional headquarters of the province as well. The proposal aims to provide daily free and quality meals to around 70,000 children. The estimated cost for this program is Rs. 500 million annually, which the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will bear. Memoranda of understanding will be signed with the Department of Social Welfare and private welfare organizations for the implementation of the approved program.

The objective of this initiative is to provide nutritionally balanced meals to children so that they can stay healthy and active, enhancing their academic performance. The meals provided under the “School Meals Program” will be complete and balanced to support physical and mental development of children.

Another objective of this program is to alleviate financial burdens on parents. Many parents find it difficult to provide quality meals to their children, and this program is expected to alleviate that difficulty. This initiative by the government is highly commendable, and it is hoped that its positive outcomes will be evident.

This program could serve as a milestone in the educational system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its success could set an example for other provinces to adopt similar programs. Implementing such programs nationwide could improve children’s health and education across the country.
